This is a scene that I edited with footage that I licensed from Editstock to continue to sharpen my skills as an editor.

For this project I really enjoyed working with the higher res 4k footage from Editstock as it made it easier to work with the footage from beginning to end. For this short, a lot of it was very straight forward to cut together because each shot had a few takes to choose from. There were some different angles to choose for different shot choices which made it enjoyable to be able to focus on the nuances of each performance in each take. Especially for Mr. Daley since for the entire first half of the short he does not have any spoken lines. Cutting the beginning of the short I just focused on the physical performances above everything else and then tried to make it work around those performances.

Once Ivan, the delivery driver, arrives I felt like more of the short focused on his journey and change in character. That was my approach to the short in the bigger picture of the story, because it seemed like Ivan had more of a change through the short film. In the short Ivan is torn between wanting to get his workers out for the day on a Friday and being there for someone who needs someone. This made editing the short film fun to edit in an unexpected way because reading the script IĀ envisioned that Mr. Daley was the main focus of the film, but once reviewing all of the footage it seemed to me to actually be Ivan with the other delivery workers there to help move the story forward as needed.

For this project I had recently come across a new way to organize my timeline to know exactly how I had felt about each shot as I screened the original footage while cutting. In this system you use three different layers on the timeline to organize things with your favorites on top and things that work but maybe don't have the exact performance that grabs your eye on the lower layers. Then you can go back through the footage from the selects timeline to cut together your final timeline.
